Prerequisites

Before installing Taskeract, make sure you have the following:

  • Git — Taskeract uses git worktrees to isolate agent sessions. Git 2.20 or later is required.
  • An AI coding agent — At least one supported agent must be installed: Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI, Google Gemini CLI, or OpenCode. Taskeract uses the credentials you've already configured for each agent, so make sure you're logged in and authenticated before adding them.
  • A Taskeract account — Sign up at taskeract.com/sign-up to activate your license.

Taskeract runs on Linux and macOS. Windows support is planned for a future release.

First Launch

When you launch Taskeract for the first time, a setup wizard walks you through configuring your system. The wizard sets up a local domain system so each project's sessions are accessible via https://*.tact URLs.

1. Sign In

Enter your Taskeract account credentials. This activates your license and syncs your subscription status.

2. Welcome

The wizard explains what will be configured: a local Certificate Authority, system trust store installation, DNS resolver, DNS server, HTTPS proxy, and port 443 access.

3. Agent Selection

Taskeract scans your system for supported AI coding agents and pre-selects any it finds on your PATH. You can toggle which agents to configure. Each agent is assigned a unique display color.

4. Domain System Setup

The wizard configures your system for local HTTPS development domains. It sets up a local certificate authority, DNS resolution, and an HTTPS proxy so each project's sessions are accessible via trusted .tact domains. All privileged operations are batched into a single authentication prompt to minimize interruptions.

5. Restart (Linux only)

On Linux, a restart is required after setup for port access to take effect. macOS does not require a restart.

Adding Your First Project

A project in Taskeract is a pointer to a local git repository. To add one:

  • Click Add Project in the sidebar.
  • Select the root directory of a git repository on your machine.

The project is added using the directory name. To rename it or enable the Web App toggle, right-click the project in the sidebar to access its settings.

Once the project is added, you can create your first session. See the Usage Guide for details on sessions, agents, and git integration.
